Health Services Management
Major changes in the area of health in Uruguay require professionals who have responsibilities in health organization management, or who aspire to have those responsibilities, to deepen their knowledge and administrative and management skills to be more effective in their daily work and to provide quality services.
Administration, jointly with health sciences and knowledge of the field of health, provide structure and methodology to organize resources and processes which guide management in achieving objectives and goals that improve the quality and efficiency of institutions.
This postgraduate course specializes in health management, bringing together different but related logics: the structure and methods of administrative thinking, the social application of health care, and the leadership needed today.
In addition to addressing typical topics of this specialization, the program is different from other proposals in various aspects related to occupational health integration, with a focus on working conditions and environment, and on healthy organizational factors, focusing on occupation and the working environment. Another aspect is the integration of risk, which allows us to assess the importance of risk for the allocation of resources and to identify those areas of greater incidence on service management, either for welfare or economic impact. It emphasizes the prevention of risks linked to patient safety, which highlights quality management, ethical-legal components, and the media and their implications, both in technical and operational aspects as in research.
Specialization contributes to building a strong critical mass in Uruguay’s health management. One of its pillars is research as an evidence-based learning tool, and it has an impact on the daily operation and decision-making process in health policies.

The Diabetology and Nutrition Society of Uruguay (SDNU) has highlighted the relevance of this program given the increase in people affected by this pathology, a situation that, without prevention and control programs with the necessary training of human resources, will have a negative impact on the health economy and undoubtedly on people’s quality of life.
