Mobility programs
There are three ways to study at Universidad Católica del Uruguay within the framework of an exchange program:
Bilateral agreements/AUSJAL (see list of universities under the agreement)
Bilateral agreements are agreements signed between Universidad Católica del Uruguay and a foreign university. In this list, you may check if there is an exchange agreement between your university and Universidad Católica del Uruguay. Follow the instructions available on "Application Process".
CINDA Program
ISEP - International Student Exchange Program
If you are studying at an ISEP member university (http://isep.org), you may choose Universidad Católica del Uruguay as destination. For more information, please contact an ISEP Coordinator at your University.
Free Mover
If your University is not in the list of universities under agreement nor an ISEP member, you may attend as a “Free Mover". This program enables you to study a semester at our University, by paying a registration fee.

Bilateral Agreements/AUSJAL/CINDA Application Process
Your university must officially contact us and indicate you have been selected as a candidate for mobility. To do so, you must send an e-mail to intercambio@ucu.edu.uy.
The following documents must be sent to the Student Exchange Office (Oficina de Intercambio Estudiantil) before the corresponding deadlines:
• Exchange application form
• Letter from the International Relations Office (Oficina de Relaciones Internacionales) from the University of origin of the student, indicating that his/her registration is active and that he/she has been selected to participate in the exchange program.
• Student’s Curriculum vitae
• Student’s report indicating his/her objectives and expectations concerning the cultural and academic exchange - maximum 500 words
• Health statement and evidence that he/she has an international full-coverage health insurance
• Official transcript of the university of origin
• Photocopy of passport or national identity card
• 2 passport-size photos

Free Mover Application Process
The international student willing to be a “Free Mover” must submit:
• Letter from the International Relations Office (Oficina de Relaciones Internacionales) from the University of origin of the student, indicating that his/her registration is active and that he/she has been selected to participate in the exchange program
• Student’s Curriculum vitae
• Student’s report indicating his/her objectives and expectations concerning the cultural and academic exchange - maximum 500 words.
• Health statement and evidence that he/she has an international full-coverage health insurance
• Official transcript of the university of origin
• Photocopy of passport
• 2 passport-size photo
• By signing the application form for Admission to the University, he/she agrees to pay tuition fees (USD 2,200 per semester); accommodation and food fees are not included.
• The candidate shall make a payment of USD 400 through bank transfer as advance registration at the time of submitting the application.

Spanish course for international students
Intensive Spanish Language - Pre-semester course
• Level: A2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFR)
• Length: 2 weeks - 40 hours (two weeks before the beginning of school year)
Registration cost: US$ 300
Early registration cost: US$ 250
Free course for students accepted under the Exchange program through bilateral agreement or Free Mover
Form: Spanish language - pre-semester course

Spanish language - semester courses
B1 and B2 levels (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFR)

These courses have been specially designed for international students to support them in their cultural immersion process. Part of the program includes activities and cultural outings accompanied by a teacher. We recommend every international student taking at least one of these courses.

Accommodation
The academic exchange office provides students with different options for accommodation in Montevideo. This will only be done after having received duly completed request forms before the corresponding deadlines.
ISEP students will have accommodation according to the Institutional Information Sheet that you will timely receive from your ISEP Coordinator.

Universidad Católica del Uruguay is not responsible for mediating in this matter. However, the University offers available information. Please send us your query and we will answer shortly.

Further Recommendations
If you are thinking of renting an apartment, it may be advisable to stay at a hostel or hotel during your first days in Montevideo to find out the necessary information and decide what suits you best. Remember to mention, in all cases, that you are coming to study at Universidad Católica del Uruguay.

Cost of living

The following is a list of estimated prices:
Weather
Autumn (March to May): Days are warm, maximum temperature: 25 °C and nights can be somewhat cold: minimum 10 °C.
Winter (June - September): Days are very cold, you must bring warm clothes! Days are shorter, it gets dark at 6 pm. During the day, maximum temperature is 18-20 °C and minimum temperature is 0-8 °C.
Spring (September - December): Days are warm with a nice breeze. Temperatures are high during the day and cooler at night.
Summer (December - March): The Sun rises at 6 am and hides from 8 to 9 pm. Maximum temperature can reach 35 °C and minimum temperature can be 15°C in January.
Visa
Uruguay does not require visas from citizens of countries of Latin America, US, Canada and Europe. Any international student can travel with their passport as a “tourist”, their stay is valid for 90 days. You may then carry a simple proceeding at the Ministry of Interior to extend the deadline for another 90 days - cost approx. USD 30. If you are a citizen of another country, please check with the nearest Uruguayan consulate.
Medical Insurance
Every exchange student must hire a full coverage health insurance. You must make the necessary arrangements before leaving your country and inform the policy number to the University, according to the provisions of the Application Form.
