This degree relies upon an ethical and humanistic approach regarding the bonds with the patients, respect for their dignity and privacy, promoting their autonomy when it comes to making decisions. In this way, the graduate will develop competencies in health promotion, to make a diagnosis and to recommend a treatment, placing special emphasis on primary attention, willing to support and improve the health conditions of the person and of the community. The physician graduated at the UCU will always denote an attitude of permanent professional development and of scientific spirit, proactive in the search of solutions for the different health problems.
This undergraduate program trains professionals holistically, so they approach their work from a technical and humane perspective, with ethical values and analytic, thoughtful and creative awareness. Students learn to encourage health promotion, prevention, recovery and rehabilitation, in order to provide users with quality care, depending on the patients’ condition and their family and social context. Graduates will have the capacity to lead processes in patient care and will perform responsibly, bearing in mind the prevalence of epidemics in the region and country.
Nursing (Professionalization)
This undergraduate program aims to professionalize nursing assistants that already have knowledge and experience. They are offered a six-semester option to complete their training, aimed at the promotion, prevention, recovery and rehabilitation of people’s health. The professional will have leadership skills to manage health services or other related enterprises. Graduates will have the ability to lead processes in patient care and will perform responsibly, bearing in mind the prevalence of epidemics in the region and country.
Nutrition
This undergraduate program approaches the discipline of nutrition from three pillars: human being, food and environment. Eating habits directly influence the promotion, prevention and treatment of diseases. This is why this degree prepares professionals with intellectual and ethical autonomy, who are capable of perceiving the complexity of eating and nutritional issues. Students integrate knowledge and tools to respond to the challenges posed by the scientific advances in the area.
Occupational Health and Safety
This undergraduate program provides professionals with the scientific knowledge and technical skills to successfully manage risks at the workplace, and to design and implement OHS systems that preserve and improve workers’ individual and collective health and safety. Graduates will be able to assess current risks and hazards, design and implement OHS action plans and promote healthy and safe organization practices fostering good workplace relationships and employees’ personal development and commitment to work.
Psychology
This undergraduate program aims to develop professional psychologists who, by knowing the regional and local context of their field, will promote people’s mental health and well-being by understanding and explaining the individual, interpersonal, and social aspects of human behavior. Students will be acquainted with a wide variety of psychological theories and with leading scientific research in their discipline. They will also gain practice in anthropological and ethical reflection, and incorporate core competencies to assess and intervene in various areas of psychology.
Psychomotor Education
This undergraduate program offers excellent training in the psychomotor discipline, following international guidelines. Professional basic skills will be developed so that graduates can provide both prevention and therapy while working with people’s motor expression throughout their life cycle.
Psychopedagogy
This innovative undergraduate program in Uruguay trains professionals who can foster the teaching /learning process, primarily in children, adolescents and young adults in a range of clinical, community and educational contexts. Students learn to work with settings and approaches: at a personal and family level (psychopedagogical treatment) and in educational contexts (school inclusion, curriculum adaptation, curriculum and syllabus design to improve learning). This undergraduate program shares an academic core with the Program in Psychology as well as subjects with Teacher Training and Education Programs, allowing for flexible student transfer from one academic stream to another.
Physical Therapy
This undergraduate program trains professionals to work towards the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of people with different motor system injuries. Research is essential in this degree to understand the tasks and projects to develop. Students receive training in management and administration, key entrepreneurial areas, and develop the leadership attitudes that will allow them to enter business companies, academic institutions and sports organizations.
Speech Therapy
This undergraduate program trains professionals to foster human health through the prevention, evaluation, intervention and treatment of human communication disorders and related impairments in the areas of language, speech, voice, stomatology and hearing. Throughout the study program, students integrate the perspectives of bio-medical sciences, psychology and neurolinguistics, and acquire a solid foundation in research methods and clinical practice skills.
Technical Degree in Therapeutic Accompaniment *
This study program trains health workers with a strong commitment to service, whose role is to facilitate the rehabilitation and reintegration of patients affected by a variety of pathologies. The complexity of the clinical field where therapeutic companions work requires professionals with solid practical and ethical training which enables them to follow the strategies and intervention instruments outlined by the medical team. The study program’s design shows students unique opportunities to enhance patients’ daily life, and thus contribute to their well-being and health.
Dentistry
This undergraduate program trains professionals to investigate and solve oral-maxillofacial pathologies. Students participate in the creation, practice and assessment of education, dental health and prevention plans on an individual and community level.
Dental Assistant Technical Degree*
This technical degree offers solid training in technical tasks inherent to the role of dental assistants. Graduates will be able to help the dentist in the care of patients with health issues in their stomatognathic system, assisting directly in four-handed dentistry.
