Tecnología para Inclusión Social

Tecnología para Inclusión Social

The advent of ICTs and smart technologies have triggered significant transformations at a social, economic and political level. Change has become the new normal and therefore, it is important to step back and take time to gain understanding about the forces that are driving these transformations and what those changes require of the citizens.

During the first part of the course, students will explore core social issues associated to the globalization process, such as: systemic risks of globalization, social inclusion/exclusion and citizen participation, the digital divide and the impact on demographics and the job market of the future. They will have the possibility to analyse how those core issues are interwoven into the SDGs of Agenda 2030 and Uruguay`s Digital Agenda.

During the second part of the course, students will work collaboratively with the community to discover ways in which they can actively contribute, professionally and vitally, to shape societal shifts in order to generate wellbeing.

TSi aims at raising students´ awareness of their social responsibility as IT professionals and developing the their prosocial behaviour and attitudes.

The question that lies at the foundation of this course is:

¿Cuál es el bien social que cuida la profesión de Ingeniería en Informática? Which is the asset that the Software Engineering profession cares for?

During the course, students will interact in English and Spanish. There will be English and Spanish-speaking guests invited to join classes and share insights and new perspectives on the course topics. Students who sign up for the course should have minimally a good basic level of English for general purposes.
